Frequently Asked Questions

Where are your chocolates made?
The kitchen where all of our goodies are produced is currently located in Elizabeth, Colorado. Please note we do not currently have a brick and mortar location - all online orders are only available for in-state shipping or local delivery at this time.

What does "small-batch" mean?
When we say small-batch, we mean that our chocolates and confections are made in limited quantities, rather than mass-produced. We do everything by hand with no large-scale production equipment, including all of our decorations as well as tempering our chocolate. Every item is unique, freshly made and crafted with care for maximum deliciousness.

What if I have an allergy?
Although we are food handler certified and follow the same health and safety standards as commercial kitchens, Proof & Temper currently operates as a cottage kitchen. Due to the presence of certain ingredients which are known allergens (tree nuts, sesame, dairy and gluten) in our kitchen, we cannot guarantee any of our products to be 100% free from cross-contamination.

Do you only sell online?
Although we do not currently have a brick and mortar location, you can also follow us on Instagram, check our Calendar page or subscribe to our email/SMS newsletter for menu updates as well as local events and farmer's markets we'll be attending for the 2026 season in Colorado!

How should I store my chocolates?
Chocolates should be stored in a cool, dry location - ideally between 60-65F. This could be in a cool room, pantry, wine fridge, or if necessary, the fruit/vegetable compartment of your refrigerator.

*If you must store your chocolates in a refrigerator, we strongly recommend keeping them in a tightly sealed plastic bag to protect their beautiful shine from external moisture. Remove from fridge about 15-20 minutes before eating, but keep them in the plastic until they've reached room temperature*

How long do your products last?
All of our offerings are hand-produced in small batches with the finest ingredients, and are best enjoyed within 7-10 days of purchase for maximum flavor and freshness. However, they can be kept in a cool, dry location out of direct sunlight (see storage recommendations above) for up to 30 days.

I need favors for an event. Do you accommodate custom or large-scale orders?
Absolutely - we love to provide our confections as favors for weddings, special occasions and corporate events! Depending on what you're looking for and how much advance notice we have, we can do custom flavors, shapes/molds, colors to work within a specific color scheme and more!

Please submit a contact form here, and we will reach out to you directly with more information regarding custom orders and/or scaled bulk pricing.

**Please note that we are a small batch kitchen and any purchase of 24 items or more qualifies as a bulk order. Bulk orders must be submitted with at least 7 days of prior notice**

Do you offer refunds?
All sales are final and we do not accept returns or offer refunds. Customers are personally responsible for ensuring that all shipping information is correct prior to submitting an order, and having appropriate storage/transportation for local pickup orders. Proof & Temper is not responsible for any damage once products leave our facility, but we take great care in packing and shipping to minimize any damage that may incur during transit and ensure your shipment arrives in a timely fashion.

Proof & Temper is not responsible for delays in transit caused by high package volume, weather, mechanical error, strikes, natural disasters, terrorism safety control, local carrier miss-scans, or inaccurate shipping information. Leaving a package at an address is ultimately up to the discretion of the individual delivery person and is therefore entirely outside our control.

Shipping, Local Delivery & Pickup Guidelines

Can I place an order for in-store pickup?
Although Proof & Temper does not currently have a brick and mortar storefront you can visit in person, we offer an in-person pickup option at checkout for online orders whenever we are scheduled to appear at a local event, festival, pop-up or farmers market.

Which shipping carriers do you use?
We currently provide in-state shipping services through either UPS or USPS.

When do you ship?
Once fulfilled, orders are processed for shipping each week Monday through Thursday each week. We do not ship Friday through Sunday due to the unpredictable nature of weekend shipping.

Why don't you offer more basic/standard shipping options?
Although all of our products are carefully packaged to keep everything in optimal temperatures and conditions during their shipping journey, our weather situation here in Colorado is wildly unpredictable even on the best of days. All available shipping options are intended to keep your shipment on the road for as little time as possible and minimize the risk of anything being melted or damaged in transit.

Do you ship during the summer?
We ship all year round! During the warmer months when temperatures start regularly hit 65 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, our products are shipped with disposable ice packs along with extra temperature-regulating packaging - this is factored into our handling fee.

Where do you ship?
In accordance with state cottage law, we unfortunately can only ship locally within the state of Colorado. We will ship to more destinations as we continue to grow! Please see our Shipping Guidelines page for more information on our shipping options, carriers and hot-weather shipping protocols.
